Woodend Children’s Festival

Puppeteering, African drumming, Indigenous storytelling and weaving are among workshops being developed for Woodend’s inaugural children’s festival, to be staged on Sunday 27th July 2014 as an exciting mid-winter activity for local families.

Running from 10am-3pm in Woodend’s Buffalo Sports Stadium, with adjoining marquee. A range of workshops, performances and creative areas will be operating on the day.

Our school will be contributing to the Woodend Children’s Festival One Million Stars installation. This is being designed as a mini-version of a large artistic installation created by artist Maryann Talia Pau, which showcases 11,000 stars suspended at Melbourne’s Big Design Market 2013. Our stars will then become a part of a larger installation at the 2014 Big Design Market in Melbourne in December. ‘These woven stars will represent light, hope and courage to end all forms of violence, including violence against woman.’ Maryann Talia Pau .

For a visual demonstration of how to create these star weaves, visit Β http://www.onemillionstars.net/Β and practise at home. (Choose Instructional video number 2)

Good luck at have fun!

  1. Hi Mrs Cairney, I am enjoying making the stars. By the way, how did you get the picture next to your name – I like it,

    • Hi Chloe!
You can create a picture of yourself by selecting an Avatar. I think it’s in your settings menu. See you in Art!

  2. hey mum!
the project that we did for the woodend arts festival was so great, and alot of kids took that experience home with them to continue it, witch was a great sign.
the mosaic project that we are doing now is also really great, and it allows kids to broaden their imagination on the possibilities in art. thank you so much for giving us a great art experience!
    Alex XOXOXO
